Whether you live in Radnor, Wayne, Devon, Malvern, or Gladwyne; chances are you have lost power with the recent blast of winter storms that have hit the Main Line. Our longstanding relationships with our clients never ends, as they especially look for our expertise in these difficult times. Whether you live in New Construction, or an older home, there are some simple rules to keeping your homes safe during a winter power outage:
When your Power goes out, make sure to take these few steps:
1) Shut the water. Go to the main shut off valve (most likely located in the Basement), and shut the valve to off.
2) Go to the faucets and toilets and open the valves and let all of the water out. This will remove any sitting water and pressure from the water supply lines. If there isn’t any water in the line, nothing can freeze and cause the pipe to explode.
3) Limit opening the refrigerator or freezer doors as this will accelerate any foods from staying cold. Remove all ice from any freezers, as it could melt and leak on the floor.
4) Do Not heat your house with a gas grille, or place a generator indoors or in the Garage. This will create toxic Carbon Monoxide gases which are odorless, tasteless and could cause serious injuries or death.
